National Depression Screening Day

Just like screening for any other health problem, screening for depression is important because it allows health care providers to detect the problem early on, and increases the chances that treatment will be more effective. Screenings are often the first step in getting help.

Facts about Depression

  • 15 million. The number of Americans adults experiencing major depression in a given year
  • 51%. The percentage of Americans diagnosed with major depression in a given year who are treated for depression
  • 80% to 90%: Percentage of people with depression who show improvement when treated for depression

Screenings are conducted by the Georgia Tech Counseling Center.

The Counseling Center is located on the second floor of the Smithgall Student Services Building (Flag Building). The Counseling Center offers a range of services for Georgia Tech students and for the wider campus community.
